Bogus Invitation to Reclaim Overpaid Tax
If you should receive an e-mail bearing an authentic looking HM Revenue & Customs logo and advising you that you are eligible to receive a tax refund BEWARE. The e-mail invites you to “Click Here to submit you tax refund request†(note spelling mistake). Do not open this link and do not under any circumstances provide the information requested. HM Revenue & Customs are encouraging the use of online filing of tax returns, employer returns and tax payments, but make it clear they will not contact tax payers ( “their customersâ€) by e-mail regarding tax repayments. Further points to bear in mind are genuine correspondence will be signed by an Officer not printed “HM Revenue& Customs†and in my experience is never signed off “Best Regardsâ€. If you should receive such an e-mail it should be forwarded to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it without opening the link to the attachment.
