MINUTES OF BUSINESS MEETING HELD AT THE PREMISES OF CHOCO LATTE MONDAY 16th MAY 2011
President - Ms. Annie Mulady; Vice President – Adam Marlow: Secretary – Jo Braybrooke; Treasurer - Mark Alliston
There were 31 members present.
1 Welcome – The President welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced Melissa Moore – Sales Manager of the Compleat Angler who was deputising for Gaius Wyncoll – General Manager. Melissa gave a short presentation on the facilities available at The Compleat Angler.
Town Strategy – The Chamber are continuing the battle to obtain a Town Strategy.
Christmas Lights and Late Night Shopping - the date for this year’s Late Night Shopping Event is Thursday 8th December 2011. The Secretary had had a meeting with Marlow Town Council and a prospective supplier for new lights and hopefully more definite news on this would be available at the next meeting.
Flower Beds – Sponsorship was desperately required for the flower beds in the town. The President urged members to think about sponsoring one of them ( there are 3 available) as these do make the town attractive. Contact the Secretary for more details –

Recruitment – the recruitment drive had resulted in three new members:
Cloud Magic Dun & Bradstreet Prince of Wales public house
The President reminded everyone of the increase in membership subscription to £75 per year. She reiterated the fact that it was the member’s Chamber and you “get out what you put in”.
Web site – The President pointed out that the web site had been slow in being updated but was now well on track and there was a huge improvement already.

Planning Application – 9 Dean Street. The rear of the site would be taken up by Saddle Safari and the offices at the front were to be made into 2 bedroom flats. The Chamber had given their support.

2 Presentation of prizes for the Royal Wedding Competition – Unfortunately the first prize winner – Jack Martin of Marlow – was unable to attend as was the winner of the Best Dressed Window Competition – Marlow Flooring. All prizes had been distributed. The President said the competition had been a great success and enjoyed by all who participated. It would appear that it had encouraged visitors to the town. Prizes were donated by Mekong Boutique, Choco Latte and Beehive.
3 Presentation by Graham Grover – Chief Executive Officer – Buckinghamshire Business First - Graham gave an enlightening talk on the objectives of BBF . For further details visit http://www.belp.co.uk/
4 Presentation by Tom Ingram – an interview-type presentation was given between Helen Isacke and Tom Ingram. Tom is a rising star in the Ginetta Junior Championship. For further details visit www.tom-ingram.com & email

5. Update on Chamber matters by the President Firstly the minutes of the last meeting were signed as a true record.
Town Strategy – A new leader of Wycombe District Council had just been appointed and it was agreed to defer matters in order to await his comments. The President had attended a seminar for “Action for Market Towns” and would pass on details to Mr. Braybrooke and Mr. Graham who were dealing with the Town Strategy on behalf of the Chamber.
Late Night Shopping/Christmas Lights – The Secretary had booked all the necessary formalities and the Events committee would be meeting soon. With regard to the Christmas lights she would be attending a meeting with the Marlow Town Council to consider suggestions by a new contractor for the lights. A decision from Wycombe District Council as to whether they would hand over the responsibility to the Marlow Town Council had not yet been received.

Future meetings - June 20th – Helen Isacke presentation on networking to be held at Burgers Tea rooms. July 18th – Joanna Helin presentation on marketing to be held at Crowne Plaza (TBC)
August 15th - hopefully a social evening – venue to be agreed.
Recommend a Chamber Member – The President asked that members contact her with details of anybody they thought would be interested in a promotion in the newsletter etc.
Recruitment Campaign – this was going well and the Chamber now had 135 members. The President’s target was to have 150 members by the end of her year. She reiterated that the more members the Chamber had the more pressure it could apply to Councils etc. on relevant matters.
Web Site – this was considerably improved and the President recorded thanks to Tony Thornby and Mark Alliston for their hard work in updating the web site. She announced that the Chamber would soon be on YouTube and anybody interested in being included should contact Tony Thornby on

6 A.O.B. – It was noted that the flower seller adjacent to Anglers Court had agreed to remove his plants which were obscuring the Chamber’s flower beds and also encroaching on the highway.
The meeting closed at 6.50pm with thanks to the Compleat Angler for their hospitality which continued in the foyer and members were given the chance to network.
