July 2017 Business Meeting Minutes

MONDAY 17th JULY 2017 –  6PM

There were 23 attendees

1. Welcome – by Maddi Lewis Sales & Events Manager at The Botanist, Reading & Marlow

The Botanist – Marlow Owned and operated by the award winning New World Trading Company with 13 sites in the UK.

Now in its second year the Botanist on West Street is open every day from 12 – 12 for food and drinks, live music every evening and a diverse cocktail menu inspired by botanicals.

Maddi is responsible for sales and events at both Marlow and the recently opened Reading outpost of the botanist. At the end of the meeting Maddi very kindly issued a 20% discount voucher to everyone who attended the meeting to use and enjoy at the Botanist Marlow.

3. Update on Chamber Matters by the President

Chamber website – The executive committee have reviewed the current Chamber website and concluded it is due a refresh. Expressions of interest are now requested from within the membership for those with the relevant expertise to re design the existing WordPress website. To express your interest please contact the president by email by the 7th of August 2017.

Facebook – please send offers/updates to Annie Mulady to update the chamber Facebook page. Annie had recently “liked” Glade House, Hunts and PPMM who are sending content through – a great way to reach a new audience.

Highways England consultation 10th of July – no further correspondence had been received from Highways England regarding the event.

Market Square – 10,000 copies successfully distributed, moving forward the publication will be bi-annual.

Celebration of Success – 13th July – Great Marlow School – the President had attended a most inspiring evening celebrating year 7 – sixth forms achievements with guest speaker the adventurer and explorer, Mac Mackenney focusing on “resilience”.

The occasion also marked the retirement of a number of long serving staff members at GMS, including Lynn Watterson whose business studies students regularly engaged with the chamber, with Late Night shopping amongst other activities.

Renewals – A reminder to forward payment for this year’s subscription to the treasurer.

5. Presentation by Mark Alliston – The Timeless Dimension

Mark’s business started in 1982 focusing on IT and websites (before the web!). Today the Timeless dimension covers photography, websites and hosting solutions. Mark’s presentation today focused on his photography service.

Based in Nettlebed, Mark’s clients include Henley Regatta, where he is the official photographer and many other local events and businesses. Mark specialises in studio product shots, parties. headshots high key pet photography, promotional activity and property.

Rates from £200 per hour for commercial work Parties from £ 200 including over 100 images for social media treat a loved one to a 1 to 2 hour photography portrait session. Gold silver and bronze options available.

6. Members News, Offers and Events 

A number of member businesses have recently picked up local and national awards, congratulations to Rebellion Beer Co for best in district – Bucks Business awards, The Botanist owners – New World Trading Company for pub and bar group of the year at the Cateys, the Oscars of the hospitality Industry and Tom Kerridge for winning Chef of the year, also at the Cateys.
