MINUTES OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING?
HELD ON MONDAY 20th
OCTOBER 2014 AT 6PM
AT THE CROWNE PLAZA, MARLOW?

Present:?(Executive) ?Mr. T. Graham (President); Mr. P. Deriaz (Vice President);?Mrs?J. Braybrooke (Secretary); Ms. A. Mulady; Ms. H. Isacke; Mrs. L. Grant;?Messrs. Spittle; Jolliffe; Slater; Gandy; Burger; Heighway

Also present: Town Mayor ? Cllr. Suzanne Brown; Mrs. Annie Jones (Marlow Town Council Clerk); Cllr. Alex Collingwood (WDC) 40 members and guests attended.

1.???? ? ?OPENING?– The President opened the meeting and thanked everybody for attending.

2. ? ? ? APOLOGIES:?Apologies were received from the Leader and Chairman of Wycombe District Council due to a cabinet meeting.

3.? ? ? ??MINUTES?-?The minutes of the 2013 AGM (already circulated) ? were agreed and signed.

4.? ? ? ??PRESIDENT?S REPORT??the President gave details of the productive year the Chamber had had lobbying for the interest of Marlow businesses and mentioned there were now plans to link up with the businesses of Marlow Bottom. The Chamber was also looking to increase their membership and encouraged members to make use of the web site.

He went on to emphasise the need for a mix of business and retail in order to keep Marlow the vibrant town it is, for both business, residents and tourists.

The President presented Lance Slater, who was stepping down from the Executive, with a gift and an honorary lifetime membership to thank him for all his hard work over many years.

5.?????????TREASURER?S REPORT AND ACCOUNTS???In the absence of the Treasurer the President presented the accounts which had already been circulated (copies available at the meeting). There were no questions.

6.?????????ADOPTION OF ACCOUNTS ??The President called for adoption of accounts which were proposed by Mr. Mr. Spittle and seconded by Mr. Gandy. Agreed.

At this point the Secretary chaired the meeting:

7.?????????ELECTION OF NEW CHAMBER OFFICERS?? Having indicated their willingness to stand the following were elected:

At this point the new President, Mr. Spittle was presented with the chain of office from Mr. Graham and took over the meeting.

8.?????????ELECTION OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ??

The Secretary read out nominations for the Executive Committee. Proposed by Cllr. Suzanne Brown and seconded by Mr. Bailey. The committee was voted en block.

The Secretary thanked Mrs. Rogers for agreeing to become a member of the Executive and urged others to join.

9.?????????APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY?? Mrs. Braybrooke was proposed by Mr. Graham and seconded by Mr. Spittle ? Agreed.

10.????????APPOINTMENT OF ACCOUNTANTS –???? Fish Partnership LLP. Loudwater were re-appointed.?Proposed by Mr. Deriaz, seconded by Mr. Slater

11.????????APPOINTMENT OF HON. SOLICITORS?? Gordons Solicitors were re-appointed. ?Proposed by Mr. Graham, seconded by Mr. Gandy.

12.????????ELECTION OF HONORARY MEMBERS?? It was agreed to elect Mr. M. Shanly, Mr. M. Blunkell (Marlow Society) and Mr. Braybrooke for one year.

Hon. Life member???Mr. Michael Bowater and Mr. Lance Slater.

At this point in the meeting the President gave a short speech thanking Mr. Graham for all his hard work during the year and went on to give emphasis to keeping Marlow vibrant and a ?Jewel of the Thames?. ?He would like a theme for the year ?To Share is to Care? ?and with this in mind encouraged members to take part in discussions at business meetings and give details of any information or advice they could offer. There was a lot of expertise within the membership and he wanted ?members to feel it was their Chamber of Commerce.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP?- There were none for October.

Marlow Christmas Shoppers App. ? the Town Clerk gave brief details of a new app. being trialled in Marlow and left leaflets for information.

Late Night Shopping ? Thursday 4th December ? the Secretary gave a brief update and it was noted that real life Star War characters would be appearing and opening the event. She urged members to offer their help for the evening and would be sending an e-mail to members with this request.

Santas Fun Run ? Mr. Slater gave details of the event which would take place on Sunday 7th December. Approx. 1500 applications had been accepted to date, the maximum this year would be 2,500.

15.?????? DATE OF NEXT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING -?Monday 19th October 2015.

?The AGM meeting closed at 6.30pm.

?GUEST SPEAKERS

Following the meeting Harriet Little (16 year old wheelchair archer) gave an inspirational talk on overcoming her disability and her hopes for Rio Paralympics. She is also involved in ?OK Our Kids? which is a newly formed Charity whose aim is to produce educational resources for parents, primary schools and children to ensure Children’s Health and Safety in the Community. Mr. Tony Churchill who started the charity had several of these books which he sold after the meeting, but was looking for businesses to sponsor the printing in order to be able to offer a book to every local child. This was followed by a motivational speech by Mr. Alex Pratt of Bucks Business First who gave details of the work they were doing in order to help businesses during these hard times and also encouraged members to get involved in the community in whichever way they could. Both speakers were thanked for their inspiring talks and the meeting closed at 7.10pm.

The evening continued with networking and the kind hospitality of the Crowne Plaza with thanks to Richard Storey and his staff.
