MINUTES OF BUSINESS MEETING HELD AT

THE UPSTAIRS CAFE IN WAITROSE

MONDAY 18TH MARCH 2013

 

There were 32 members present.

 

1.???????? Introduction ? The President opened the meeting and thanked everyone for attending. She ????? then introduced Simon Jones, the Manager of Waitrose thanking him for his hospitality. Simon entertained members with a very interesting and informative illustrated ???????? presentation of the last 100 years of John Lewis/Waitrose; how it began and how it has ??????????? evolved into the stores with which we are now familiar.

 

Waitrose in Marlow also have a meeting room for use for 10/12 people at no charge.? ? Contact a member of staff for further details.

 

2.???????? Presentation by Roger Cantell ? Construction Health & Safety Consultant ? Roger Cantell ????????? provided the meeting with details of his business which was to assist clients with Construction Design Management on extensions, refurbishments etc. both for commercial and private ?????? properties.? ?????? He can assist with budget costs, legislation and improve planning management etc.? ?????? 3.???????? Presentation by Mark Harris ? Biz Buzz on Marlow FM ? Mark was assisted by Jean Wolfe and ??? Mike Duckett who are all part time volunteers on Marlow FM.?? They gave details of how members ???? can be a guest on Biz Buzz and the benefits there-of.? Attached are details of an exciting offer for ??? advertising on the programme with a 70% discount.? 4.???????? Update on Chamber Matters ? the President thanked all speakers and continued with Chamber ?????????? updates.

WI Meeting ? the President has accepted an invitation to speak at a Women?s Institute meeting on ????????? the decline of High Street shops, in May.? The Institute are sending a proposal to their HQ and were looking for comments from business associations.

 

Facebook ? the Chamber have now joined Facebook

 

??????????? Harleyford ? Approximately 20 members had enjoyed a networking/breakfast meeting in March followed for those, who wished to take part, with a half hour session with the Golf Pro. An option of 18 hole golf game at a reduced price could then be enjoyed.? The whole event was a great success ? and it was hoped to repeat this in a couple of month?s time, inviting members from other local ???????? Chambers to join us. ???? This would increase the number of networking opportunities. The next event ?? would be at a cost of ?10 for the breakfast and ?20 for the game of golf.? The Pro Clinic would be ????????? hopefully be at no cost ???????? once again.

 

Google? – To provide a snapshot of this vital economic activity, Google worked with Ipsos MORI to break the UK into its 12 regions and analysed the online strength of local businesses across 1300 towns. Those towns with the highest scores in each region were awarded eTown status Marlow came 7th in the poll.

Annie Mulady said “The Chamber is very pleased that Google has recognised local Marlow businesses for the strength of their online presence. The award is a very welcome boost for the local business community and we strongly appreciate Google’s efforts to support local providers of goods and services. Our hope is that Google will continue to support independent businesses, which are an important part of a vibrant local economy.”

Membership Drive ? the President urged members to encourage businesses to join the Chamber but ?????? also to let her know what they themselves would like to see the Chamber focussing on.

 

Marlow Town Council ? The President, Vice President and Secretary would be having regular ?? meetings with members from Marlow Town Council in order to ensure better communication ??? between the Council and the Chamber. The first meeting would be held on 8th April.

 

Parking Review ? Cllr. Scott had contacted the President to inform her that the proposed meeting ?????????? with Bucks County Council had been postponed but she hoped to have more details by our April ??????? meeting.

5.???????? Martins Matters

Mr. Spittle gave full details of issues that were of interest to business covering the following ???????? subjects:

 

  • European Directive ? Simplification of accounting by micro entities expected to be adopted for accounting periods ending on or after October 2013
  • Financial Reporting Standards 102 ? effective for accounting period beginning 1st January 2015
  • Scam ? Industry and Commerce Register of Information
  • HMRC ? ?Where?s my reply? ? Check progress of some correspondence
  • Driving in France ? what you have to carry within your car by law

 

6.???????? A.O.B.

Cllr. Alex Collingwood ? WDC Leader ? gave details of the trial taking place in High Wycombe for ?????? number plate recognition in car parks.? This should also be trialled in Marlow beginning in ???????? June/July.

 

Reduced Parking Rates ? Cllr. Collingwood gave details of proposed potential for all day parking at ??????? a reduced rate for shop workers from ?????? Monday ? Friday in 3 car parks in Marlow.

 

Farmers Market – Proposed Saturday Farmers Market was under discussion.

?

??????????? Globe Park Regeneration – Cllr. Collingwood gave brief details of the potential for Globe Park ?? regeneration.

 

Council Tax ? there would be zero increase in council tax for this year and it was hoped that 3 ??? additional police would be deployed in this area during 2013.

 

Bottle Banks ? In the autumn of 2013 lorries would be collecting bottles from homes rather than the ???????? public having to take these to bottle tanks.

 

 

The President thanked Cllr. Collingwood for giving updates.

 

The meeting closed at 7.10 followed by networking and the kind hospitality of Waitrose.
